Dear Members
Well I have had a busy couple of months, Horace and I did our 1st BE event at Draycott in Derbyshire in the worst rain ever!!! Our debut on the intermediate team for the Holme Valley at Bishop Burton also went well, the rider was quite green at the start of the cross country but Hora flew round and didn’t even give a fence a second look. (All though I do wish he would look occasionally its no good when you both have your eyes shut!)
The next events in the club field are as follows
14 & 15th July – Points Showjumping (Please note change of date)
In the club field starting with clear round at 6pm Entry fee is £4.00 per class and £2.00 for clear round. Dress code: No Show Jackets but correct hats, boots and jodhpurs. You will notice that this year there are 2 jumping shows this is to encourage those of you who are just starting out and would like to jump something a bit smaller while gaining competition experience. Please attend these shows as this is only a trial for this year and if they are poorly attended then we will go back to just one evening. Thank you.

Bridleways
Dorothy Fletcher has recently attended a meeting at the George Hotel regarding issues with Kirklees Highways. Below is Dorothys report.
I spoke, quite strongly I think, about The Greenway, Honley wood, Hassocks, Cop and about the general way riders get pushed to the back of the queue for improvements help grants etc. I also spoke about the lack of respect for riders on the roads in our area and a need for better road user education regarding them. I believe I did a good job of standing our corner for us all as riders and getting it all officially on record! I also spoke about the illegal use of S M A on the roads in Kirklees which is a very slippery surface tarmac and has been banned.
As we all know it is dangerous for our horses and can cause serious injury. After we were shown flash cards and asked to put them in order of importance, things like collecting parking fees and maintenance of pavements etc It finished about 10.05pm and it was really good when they handed us an envelope each with £30 cash in it!
Our bridleways officer Ann Martin confirms that negotiations are still ongoing to sort out the problem of the Meltham Greenway. Please be polite to Mr Gould as riders are being accused of rudeness please do not get into arguments with him as this could affect the results. – Thanks
Rebecca Murray has had an accident concerning SMA tarmac at the top of Bank Foot Lane, Netherton. Both horse and rider slipped while crossing from one bridle way to another. Luckily both rider and horse are ok apart from some loss of skin and an a very sorry looking saddle.
Please report any horse falls due to poor road surface to Nicola Turner at turner_scape@yahoo.co.uk
